Duke of Mount Deer was created by several top online-gaming experts from China and South Korea and has gained much popularity in China. The game combines a classic Chinese story with the latest 3D rendering technology and cinematic quality graphics. The game was the first MMORPG game available through Garena+. In December 2011, Garena announced their collaboration with online games developer, Changyou, to publish and operate the popular 3D martial arts game, Duke of Mount Deer, in Taiwan. In November 2011, Garena announced its publishing rights for the team-based shooter game, Firefall, in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. Following Chen’s departure, Li pivoted the short-lived venture to focus on game publishing and changed the business’s name, officially founding Garena in 2009. Chen eventually exited GGgame in 2008 after selling his 35% stake for US$700,000.

Watch the replays here, and keep these casters in mind when you’re hosting a similar event. I’m not singling out any caster in particular, because all of them did really well. Maybe Garena could have tried to ensure there would be a bit more drama in the tournament! It could be because everyone was tired, or perhaps it could be because both teams on stage had little at stake save for a difference in prize money: they were sister teams from multi-game eSports organization, Insidious Gaming. It’s the same “magic” that Intel Extreme Masters tour director Michal “Carmac” Blicharz noted Singapore had, in his last interview with us.

I must note that the crowd for The Legends Circuit grand finals was missing that spark you often feel in eSports events, though. While they weren’t particularly fired up-I understand how freaking tired everyone was after that long weekend-they were definitely eager to see who would win, and most stayed till the close of the Carnival, where the final stage activities and freebie giveaways were carried out. Perhaps 400 to 500 League of Legends enthusiasts were left (to my estimation) by the time the fifth match of The Legends Circuit grand finals rolled around. (See: 10 things to remember when attending a gaming and eSports event) Given a good reason, people are interested. While their passion is definitely only for Garena-published games, it does bode well for the future of Singapore’s eSports industry. Still, however young the Garena Carnival attendees were, they were at least fired up enough about it to fork out S$10 (about $8) and make their way down. Free Monster Energy drinks were being handed out throughout the carnival, and these probably contributed to giving those parents an even bigger headache. Saturday saw a lot of bored parents accompanying their offspring and lounging around on empty chairs while waiting for their kids. One thing to note about the Garena Carnival is that the crowd was very young, with the majority likely ranging from pre-teen to late teen in age.
